SK Broadband, a leading integrated communications company in South Korea, has enabled 1Gbps broadband service, leveraging ARRIS E6000™ Converged Edge Router (CER), a DOCSIS 3.1 compliant cable access network equipment which the company started deploying last year. The service, which ARRIS claims as the first in Asia Pacific, makes SK Broadband an industry leader by delivering one of the fastest broadband speeds anywhere in the world.
According to ARRIS, the Converged Cable Access Platform (CCAP) solution has been pivotal for SK Broadband to reach landmark broadband speeds, and also enabling further innovations such as the world's first 4K (UHD upscaling) TV service. The Operator currently serves 2.6M customers with its IPTV service, and in last year's third quarter alone, added 189,000 new customers.
Arris added that the South Korean market continues to see phenomenal growth in bandwidth consumed in response to the growth in demand for video and multimedia services along with an even bigger growth in the number of connected devices in the country.
Tim Gropp, SVP, Sales for Asia Pacific, ARRIS
SK Broadband is the first company to break through the 1Gbps speed barrier in Asia-Pacific and exceeds the high-speed data service levels of most other regions of the world. SK Broadband has benefited significantly from choosing the ARRIS E6000 system, with its unprecedented level of service and channel density, both upstream and downstream. This will also give SK Broadband the capacity to grow the business over the coming years.
