Mavenir Systems, Monday announced that its software-based Session Border Controller (SBC) was selected by T-Mobile Austria, a subsidiary of Deutsche Telekom (DT), for its IP Interconnect and Access SBC Project. Mavenir said that its SBC is optimized for advanced wireless applications and provides the full suite of standards-defined wireless functions needed to rollout next generation communications solutions and services, which T-Mobile Austria plans to commercially launch in 2015.
Another subsidiary of DT, T-Mobile US, in June last year selected Mavenir's converged IMS (IP Multimedia Subsystem) core network and Telephony Application Server (TAS) solution for the rollout of its VoLTE service.
Last week, Mavenir announced a merger which sees Ottawa-based Mitel, a global leader in business communications, acquiring the company in a deal worth approximately $560 million, leading to the creation of a consolidated portfolio of solutions covering unified communications (UCC) and rich communications services (RCS) for fixed and mobile networks.
As operators launch 4G multimedia services and move to IP-based networks, they require an SBC that is designed to handle the unique challenges of wireless and mobility. Mavenir’s next generation SBC will support T-Mobile Austria’s network strategy with quick and easy deployment.
We selected Mavenir as a key vendor in this area, based on their ability to deliver and implement next generation solutions that support our network strategy. This solution will be deployed for both Interconnect and Access SBC use cases.
