The Router and Switch market will be one of the sub-segments in the network infrastructure to benefit from the steady increase in the consumption of data globally. The mobile backhaul infrastructure market is set to experience steady growth during the years ahead. According to Dell'Oro Group, the Service Provider Edge Router and Switch market grew by 8 percent in the second quarter of 2013 compared to the previous year. Their recently published report ranked Cisco and Alcatel in the first and second spot as leaders in the market in terms of revenue, followed by Huawei and Juniper. Together, they account for 88% of the market revenue for second quarter of this year. In terms of revenue growth, Huawei recorded the highest year-on-year growth of 38%.

“Mobile backhaul investments in the United States have grown as Service Providers purchase routers and switches to meet an increased demand for data by LTE-enabled devices,” said Alam Tamboli, Business Analyst at Dell’Oro Group.  “Government-mandated broadband upgrades in China have continued to increase the sales of routers and switches in the country.  Huawei was the principal beneficiary of these deployments with its high levels of exposure to its home market of China,” added Tamboli.
