NEC Corporation has inked a partnership with F5 Networks to offer an integrated traffic management solution to communication service providers (CSP) whereby F5's virtual application delivery controller (ADC) will be combined into NEC's Traffic Management Solution (TMS) as an integrated appliance.

According to a joint statement by NEC and F5, the integrated traffic management solution will enable hardware costs and product footprints to be reduced by approximately 50% and at the same time, will shorten lead time for installation by approximately 40%, compared to deployments featuring hardware ADCs. The solution, which addresses the need by CSPs to continuously improve the quality of experience (QoE), network coverage and throughput, will help CSPs to increase their competitiveness and capability to handle the increasing amount of mobile traffic delivered on their networks.

NEC and F5 added that the partnership will also extend to cover global sales and support.

Robert Pizzari, Senior Director Sales, F5 Networks
Changes in the CSP market are being driven by the desire for services that better address customers' evolving interests and new economic models. We are delighted with the opportunity to partner with NEC, to improve end-users' quality of experience in accessing and using applications, while controlling capital investment in network infrastructure by CSPs. F5's BIG-IP platform enables CSPs to accelerate the transition from just providing connectivity to delivering enhanced, differentiated mobile experiences for subscribers.

Masaaki Nakano, General Manager of Second Carrier Services Division, NEC Corporation
Through this partnership, we are integrating the technologies and the operational know-how that both companies have developed in the telecommunications industry to jointly provide high-quality support for TMS. Going forward, NEC and F5 aim to share information regarding our respective product roadmaps to further enhance our technological cooperation.
