Orange and Nokia Networks have jointly embarked on the ‘Telco Cloud partnership’ to leverage the benefits of virtualization of IP Multimedia core network Subsystem (IMS) for the operator business model and network architecture. This marks a significant step forward in Orange’s strategy to tap the power of Cloud and Network Function Virtualization (NFV), targeting a more agile service launch, self-healing and automated operations for networks.
- As part of the partnership, Orange and Nokia Networks have achieved one of the first voice calls in a fully virtualized IMS experimental environment, where IMS was used as the control plane. Orange’s proof of concept of the fully virtualized IMS solution consists of Nokia’s IMS, Open TAS (Telecommunications Application Server) and Subscriber Data Management, as well as Nokia’s ETSI-NFV compliant Cloud Application Manager.

As early leader in this field, Orange has chosen Nokia Networks as a Telco Cloud and Virtualization partner as part of an ambitious NFV transformation preparation project. The findings from this partnership are essential for building Orange’s future network and IT infrastructure, and to prepare for operational transformation across our operations as a result of NFV.
