Elephant Talk Communications, a provider of SDN/NFV software platform for Mobile Network Operators (MNOs), today announced that its mobile platform is being deployed by Lowi, Vodafone’s newest Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO) brand in Spain.

Elephant Talk, through its existing agreement with Vodafone Spain, powers the wide range of mobile services offered by Lowi, comprising postpaid voice, SMS and 3G data services for its customers throughout Spain. Lowi, which was launched December last year, aims to tap on the low cost market segment in Spain with a simple proposition such as 1GB+ of mobile data with one month rollover for €6, which includes 'zero priced' unlimited calls to all Spanish mobile and fixed numbers(€0.19 call set up fee payable).

Vodafone Spain leverages Elephant Talk's complete MVNO solution components within its virtualized SDN platform - the ET Software DNA® 2.0 - which comprise upgraded IP systems, GGSNs, provisioning and a postpaid billing system. The solution also encompasses Evolved Packet Core (EPC) technology from Affirmed Networks and HLR/HSS from HP. According to Elephant Talk, they were able to develop and launch the full platform in just three months.

Luis Jiménez-Tuñón, Managing Director of Vodafone Enabler España S.L.
The launch of LOWI was a remarkable achievement for both Vodafone Enabler and Elephant Talk. Our combined teams worked relentlessly to complete the platform in 3 months in support of Vodafone’s new brand. Elephant Talk was able to change the complete core network, the systems architecture, the billing engine, developed all the functionality required and integrated with third parties for the website and distribution. Both teams worked seamlessly together and since mid-December we have been activating new LOWI SIMs on Elephant Talk’s platform.

Steven van der Velden, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Elephant Talk
Global consumer interest in high-value mobile services continues to drive new MNO and MVNO brands, creating valuable opportunities for MNOs and enablers like us that can provide the critical software infrastructure needed to efficiently and cost effectively deploy these new integrated services. Due to the unique Network Function Virtualization foundation of our ET Software DNA® 2.0 platform, we believe we are able to dramatically reduce capital investment costs for mobile operators, while improving their time to market and also increasing added value for their customers. We look forward to continue to add MNO and MVNO brands to our portfolio over the course of 2015 and, as these brands aggressively build their subscriber bases, we expect to continue adding high margin SIMs to our platform.
