AT&T has expanded its mobile Internet coverage at Reser Stadium in Oregon by completing the installation of a new Distributed Antenna System (DAS) to enhance customers’ cellular experience throughout the facility, as part of AT&T’s Project Velocity IP (VIP), a multi-year plan to invest for growth.

According to AT&T, the in-venue DAS installation consists of multiple strategically-placed antennas that distribute AT&T’s wireless network coverage throughout the Stadium to provide enhanced and consistent wireless coverage. AT&T added that since the upgrade, its customers at Reser Stadium are using more than 145GB of mobile data on average per game day, which is equivalent to approximately 415,000 social media posts with photos at every game.

As part of Project VIP, AT&T is deploying the small cell technology, macro cells and additional DAS, which will increase the density of its wireless network. The wireless network densification will further improve network quality and increase spectrum efficiency, said AT&T.

DAS technology helps improve the mobile Internet experience by shortening the distance a request must travel. The additional capacity is also expected to help improve call reliability, boost data traffic capacity and enable more consistent network access.

George Granger, President, AT&T Oregon
When our customers cheer on the Beavers inside the stadium, we want them to have a great network experience throughout the game no matter what they’re doing – whether that’s making a call, checking email, downloading apps or surfing the Internet. With initiatives like Project VIP, we’re continuing to invest in our wireless network in Corvallis and the state of Oregon, and providing enhanced wireless coverage at Reser Stadium is just one way that we’re doing that.

Mark Massari, Oregon State University Deputy Director of Athletics
Fan engagement is at the forefront when it comes to intercollegiate competition on campuses. We are grateful for the expanded mobile connectivity that AT&T has provided at Reser Stadium. The DAS has already paid dividends as we have witnessed increased mobile activity by our fans via social media at recent home games. The DAS is one of the biggest improvements we’ve made to enhance our fan experience at Reser Stadium and we look forward to being able to provide more avenues for Beaver Nation to connect with their friends and family on game days.
