The increasing demand for WiFi offloading from subscribers who are 'on-the-go' is seeing a rapid increase in the use of WiFi Hot Spots and free public WiFi. In response to this, HP will be working with MNOs to formulate new services that will incorporate WiFi as an integrated part of the overall data connection provided for their subscribers. This will enable MNOs to really utilise the growing WiFi availability to create the most optimal service packages that will deliver cost reductions and enhanced user experience. The solution will cover both software and hardware elements in the network and is expected to introduce data offerings which combine mobile data and WiFi into various flexible packages for subscribers.

Even though WiFi access growth has been impressive, mobile operators need to holistically integrate WiFi into their network instead of exclusively utilizing for access offload. This is critical for ensuring they can provide the same level of personalized services and loyalty programs for WiFi access as they do for primary radio access networks,” said Jim Hodges, senior analyst, Heavy Reading. “In order to facilitate this transition, vendors such as HP are now bringing to market enhanced HLR/HSS and authentication gateways that seamlessly integrate WiFi with 3G and 4G access.”

Today’s WiFi services are often difficult to use and provide an inconsistent quality and billing experience for end users,” said David Sliter, vice president and general manager, Communications, Media and Entertainment, HP Enterprise Services. “The functionality of HP’s intelligent WiFi solutions is based on our breadth of offerings and on cross-domain experience that results in a best-in-class blueprint for WiFi implementation to enhance service and customer loyalty.”
