Alcatel-Lucent has signed a technical collaboration agreement with KT to drive innovation and the adoption of Network Functions Virtualization (NFV) technology in Korea, supporting KT’s efforts to evolve its Giga Network. The company will provide its integrated NFV products - including virtualized EPC, CloudBand NFV and Nuage Networks SDN platforms to the largest service provider in Korea.

  • According to Alcatel, both companies will create an NFV proof-of-concept that includes Virtualized Evolved Packet Core (vEPC) systems to provide advanced service delivery capabilities, CloudBand NFV platform for the management of the NFV environment; and Nuage Networks Virtualized Services Platform (VSP) for software defined networking (SDN) to consolidate and automate the network.

KT is happy to collaborate on our NFV proof of concept with Alcatel-Lucent who has been delivering open and integrated NFV and SDN products. We expect this collaboration will help us create converged services for Gigatopia era and develop new revenue generation models.

Alcatel-Lucent and KT share a vision of the strategic importance of virtualization and cloud infrastructure and service formation. We look forward to helping KT transition its EPC network functions to operate in an NFV/SDN environment.  Combining vEPC, CloudBand and Nuage Networks VSP for SDN provides an innovative architectural model to answer the demand for next generation application workloads and to optimize CAPEX and OPEX for delivering KT’s mobile broadband services.
