Samsung announced it has been selected to provide private 5G network solutions to five government agencies and private institutions in Korea, as part of a government initiative to advance the country’s private 5G ecosystem.

Samsung will supply its advanced private 5G network solutions – including its Compact Macro, Compact Core and radios supporting 4.7GHz and 28GHz bands – to drive next-generation use cases for public and private entities in the energy, safety, water resource management, and medical fields.

In the public sector, Samsung will collaborate with three major government agencies – Korea Electric Power Corporation (energy), Korea Industrial Complex Corporation (safety), and Korea Water Resources Corporation (water resource management) – to help them enhance workplace safety and efficiency by applying smart, AI-enabled connectivity solutions.

In the private sector, Samsung will work with Ewha Womans University Mokdong Hospital (medical services) and Samsung Medical Center (medical education), two of the largest and most technologically advanced hospitals in Korea, to implement enhanced medical services and immersive use cases.

As part of the Korean government’s effort to drive private 5G advancement, this project will allow these organizations to build and operate 5G networks using 4.7GHz and 28GHz—which are dedicated frequency bands for private 5G networks in Korea. This follows Samsung’s recent deployment of Korea’s first private 5G network at Naver’s new headquarters.
