- Deutsche Telekom (DT) and Cisco, Monday announced a new strategic partnership to provide highly secure cloud services. T-Systems will operate the cloud services, manage customer relations directly and bring corporate customers in Germany and Europe onto Cisco’s global Intercloud platform.
- The Intercloud platform will be operated from T-Systems' newly opened data center in the city of Magdeburg, Germany. The OpenStack based solution will incorporate Cisco’s suite of cloud solutions, including Cisco Intercloud Fabric and Cisco Application Centric Infrastructure (ACI), which includes Cisco Nexus 9000 Series switches and the Cisco Application Policy Infrastructure Controller (APIC).
- According to DT and Cisco, the first service to be launched from the Platform will be an OpenStack based Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS), followed by a rich ecosystem of Cisco, Deutsche Telekom,T-Systems and Intercloud Partners Services.
- For Deutsche Telekom, the partnership is an important building block in expanding its cloud business and in implementing its partnering strategy, while for Cisco it is a major step for Cisco’s plans to build the world’s largest global Intercloud, a network of clouds, according to a statement.
"The cloud is global. However, if you want a strong foothold in the European market you need to be strong in Germany. We will help Cisco to implement its cloud strategy in Germany and the rest of Europe. Based on Cisco’s Intercloud platform we will be able to offer simple and cost-effective cloud services in compliance with our strict data protection regulations in Germany and Europe."
