Cisco, Thursday announced that it is collaborating with Vodafone Germany to develop Germany’s first 4K, Ultra-HD capable set-top box, to be demonstrated at the IFA 2014 in Berlin. According to Cisco the Ultra HD set-top box will be available to subscribers within the first half of 2015 and will be the basis for all TV receivers available from Vodafone in the future.
The new Ultra-HD customer premises equipment that willl be powered by Cisco Videoscape™ MediaHighway™ operating system software, will be an upgrade option for Vodafone Germany's existing hybrid television service which combines satellite, cable, IPTV and over-the-top (OTT) programming on one box.
“The adoption of 4K has been a point of discussion in the industry for a number of years, and we are delighted to be working with Vodafone to move it from a theoretical discussion to reality whilst enabling their subscribers to benefit from even greater quality viewing. This deployment marks yet another first for Vodafone in Germany, who remain at the forefront of IPTV innovation.”
