According to a recent report by market analysis firm MicroMarketMonitor, the North American software defined radios (SDR) market is expected to grow at a CAGR of 11% from 2014 to 2020, reaching nearly $7.1B by 2020. The market research firm says that the SDR technology is being increasingly used by defense forces around the world due to its flexibility and versatility compared to conventional radios.
In addition, the SDR will be driven by telecom backhaul and in supporting the emergence of multi-band requirements to handle standards such as 3G, 4G LTE, and 4G advanced.
Asia-Pacific represents one of the biggest markets for SDRs and constitutes 19% of the total market. Key countries in the Asia-Pacific region such as Japan, Korea, and India have further growth potential, said the market research firm.
The market research firm notes that India and South Korea have started their own tactical communication programs based on SDR. India, South Korea, and Japan have territorial disputes with China; hence, they are modernizing their respective military hardware and moving towards more network-centric operational capability.
