SingTel Partners Samsung and Ericsson to Commercially Launch 300Mbps LTE-A Mobile Service
  • SingTel on Tuesday announced that its LTE-Advanced service will be made available with the introduction of Samsung GALAXY S5 4G+ to its mobile subscribers from 23 August 2014. Last month, Singtel launched the 300Mbps LTE-A service for wireless broadband, partnering with Huawei.

  • Singtel partners with Samsung and Ericsson to rollout the service which is says is the world’s first commercial 300Mbps 4G LTE-Advanced deployment. Singtel plans to introduce another model - Samsung GALAXY Alpha 4G+ in September this year.

  • The higher speed offered on its latest service is made possible through the LTE carrier aggregation technology, where non-contiguous block of spectrum can be combined to achieve a higher throughput.

The largest service provider in Singapore and a regional carrier says that it provides coverage to more than half of Singapore and has been working with Ericsson to rapidly expand its 4G LTE-Advanced to nationwide outdoor coverage by the first quarter of 2015. Singtel also highlighted that the in-door coverage of the service is currently available at 29 busy locations across the island, including Plaza Singapura, Bugis Junction, Suntec City, Raffles City, Tampines Mall and Changi Airport.

“From streaming videos to web surfing and uploading selfies, customers are doing more with their smartphones. With this launch, SingTel customers will be the first in the world to enjoy the benefits of the fastest phone on the fastest network. We are constantly enhancing our networks with the latest technologies to provide our customers with the best possible experience for today’s increasingly bandwidth-hungry applications."

-       Tay Yeow Lian, SingTel’s Managing Director of Networks

"With devices like the Samsung GALAXY S5 4G+, consumers will be at the forefront of technology – and be able to use a smart phone that pairs powerful hardware with the fastest download speeds.”

-       Irene Ng, Vice President, Regional Marketing, Samsung Asia Pte Ltd
