Globe Telecom has embarked on a network transformation project to redesign the company's wireless network to enhance network resiliency and protection system. The transformation initiative is put in place to ensure its customers have access to voice, SMS and data services even during emergencies such as when a disaster strikes.
Philippines is often prone to natural disasters as it is surrounded by bodies of water, and is located along the Pacific Ocean’s “Ring of Fire” resulting in a higher probability of breakdown of its communication networks during disasters, which damage cell sites and telecoms transmission facilities.
As part of the network resiliency program for typhoon-prone areas, Globe is introducing the use of an innovative tower solution that accelerates service restoration and the 'Cell on wheels' which provides expanded cellular network coverage and capacity during special events or during times of emergency.
"The redundancy initiative involved installation of multiple equipment, per core site, to establish traffic balancing and hardware redundancy, thus ensuring minimal service disruption in the event of an equipment failure. Our network resiliency program is a very important component of our network transformation initiative, recognizing that telecommunication services becomes more essential during times of emergency. Needless to say, the company's network resiliency program will be under constant review to ensure our readiness to provide our customers' access to our voice, SMS and data network at times they need these services the most."
