Ericsson and P4, the operator of the Play network in Poland, have signed a new agreement expanding the partnership in the radio access network (RAN), bringing Poland closer to the 5G era.

The extended agreement is the first agreement between Ericsson and Play since the acquisition of Play by the iliad Group in 2020. The contract covers the modernization of the radio access network throughout the country, based on the leading 5G Ericsson Radio System solutions.

The new agreement will bring Play's customers even closer to innovative 5G applications and significantly improved mobile broadband. Play is constantly modernizing its network to the latest generation of radio equipment, and equips the base stations with all available frequency bands. In addition, the operator upgrades the base stations to the MIMO 4x4 standard, which significantly improves the quality and capacity of the Play radio network.

As part of the agreement, Ericsson will implement locally produced "Made in Poland" Ericsson Radio System technologies such as Massive MIMO, which provides industry-leading performance with minimal footprint and lowest energy consumption. Thanks to this agreement, Play diversifies its supply chain of new mobile technology.

The agreement also includes the introduction of advanced radio software technologies such as Ericsson Spectrum Sharing, Uplink Booster and 5G Carrier Aggregation, which will improve the level of Play's customer satisfaction. Ericsson Radio System is an industry-leading technology solution designed to meet the ever-growing demand for data transmission using 2G, 3G, 4G and 5G mobile technologies.

Jean-Marc Harion, President of the Management Board of Play
The development of the network and investments in new technologies are a priority for Play, as they translate into the comfort of using the services for our clients. I am glad that we are cooperating with Ericsson, thanks to which we provide the most innovative network solutions on the market.

Martin Mellor, head of Ericsson in Poland
It is a great satisfaction for Ericsson in Poland that it strengthens its partnership with Play in order to provide the most advanced technology and modernize Play's network. Ericsson is constantly investing heavily in research and development in Poland, mobile software development and 5G production.
