WattUp and IPowerUp Team Up to Bring 'Mobile' Wireless Charging Solution

Two leading players in the charging sphere, Energous Corporation and iPowerUp are teaming up to roll out one of the most innovative solution for wireless charging. There is already a lot of hype in the market on the availability of wireless charging solutions for devices such as mobile phones, for example, the 'mat' that automatically recharges a mobile device when the device is placed on it, enabling smartphone users to recharge their devices anywhere - in the office, in the car or even in cafes such as Starbucks.

Energous and IPowerUp signed the joint development agreement (JDA) to enable Energous' WattUp™ to be embedded into IPowerUp's products. WattUp is a wire-free charging technology that allows users to charge their electronic devices at home, in the office or in the car or any other place where the solution is provided without the need to carry bulky chargers and rolls of wires. The solution comes with complete mobility under full software control, which means that users needn't put down their devices as the device can continue powering itself although it is being carried around within a certain distance. According to Energous, WattUp delivers intelligent, scalable power via the same radio bands as a Wi-Fi router.

IPowerUp, on the other hand, produces multi-function battery chargers and mobile electronic accessories, with emphasis on elegant and stylist designs. The combination of the capabilities from both companies is expected to deliver interesting end-products for the wireless charging segment and boost the overall use of mobile devices, especially smartphones and tablets.

"Wire-free charging represents the next major evolution for powering mobile devices. WattUp's unique technology will offer our customers unparalleled flexibility and convenience for charging their phones."

-  Jerry Bessa, CEO, iPowerUp

"iPowerUp's range of mobile charging solutions is the ideal showcase for our WattUp technology. Mobile accessories are part of Energous' go-to-market strategy and will bring us many steps closer to a world in which WattUp is the ubiquitous delivery mechanism for wire-free power."

-  Stephen R. Rizzone, CEO ,Energous Corporation
