O2 Slovakia announced that it has completed the several-month process of selecting a new generation network supplier and chose Ericsson as a partner in building them.

A thorough selection procedure with the participation of all relevant players also tested the possibilities of suppliers in practical tests, when O2 made the 5G network available in four selected parts of Bratislava to the public.

The agreement of the new 5G mobile networks and RAN modernization includes an extensive generational change of the current 2G, 3G and 4G technologies. The result of this step will be an improvement in the user experience, a reduction in the energy load of the installed equipment and a contribution to the efficient construction of a 5G nationwide network.

Modern 5G networks with their properties approaching a fixed connection will also be usefull for connecting households where cable coverage is not available. 5G networks are a necessary step in the development of network solutions and better spectrum management, said the Operator.

 Igor Tóth, CEO, O2
The selection of the supplier is thus, after last year's successful tender for the allocation of frequencies suitable for the construction of a 5G network, the completion of the process of preparations for the very start of the construction of a quality 5G infrastructure.
