Grameenphone has collaborated with Fortumo to launch direct carrier billing (DCB) in Bangladesh.

Grameenphone is making it possible for its customers to get benefits of DCB, which is an online payment method that will allow them to make purchases by charging payments to their mobile bill – postpaid or prepaid SIM card.

The partnership will allow all the digital content merchants to collect carrier billing payments from Grameenphone subscribers through Fortumo’s Hosted DCB product. The approach makes it easier for merchants to launch carrier billing in a scalable manner – one integration to Fortumo enables payments with Grameenphone and hundreds of other mobile operators across the world.

Only 0.2% of the population in Bangladesh have credit cards while over 40% of people have a smartphone. This creates a challenge for online merchants as people struggle to pay for digital content in an accessible way. Direct carrier billing resolves the issue and helps merchants grow their revenue in the process.
