PLDT Rolls-Out 5,000 New 4G LTE Base Stations
Philippines' leading multimedia and telecoms provider PLDT and the parent company of Smart Communications, today announced the rapid expansion of its fixed wireless and mobile broadband network with the deployment of 5,000 new 4G LTE base stations. The expansion which is set for next few months will bring ultra-fast wireless connectivity to nearly all cities and municipalities in the country.

PLDT in a statement said that it has todate deployed nearly  2,000 fixed wireless LTE base stations to serve high-speed wireless broadband services to homes via its service, PLDT HOME Bro Ultera. The PLDT HOME service that offers speed of up to 10 Mbps uses Time Division-LTE (TD-LTE) technology. The wireless broadband service has reached to provincial areas as far as Cagayan province in Northern Luzon and Davao del Sur in Mindanao, expanding from the initial service offering in Metro Manila.

According to PLDT, it is also growing rapidly in the area of fiber optics network to cater for its fixed and wireless network, reaching a total layout of 85,000 kilometers.

This aggressive expansion of our Long Term Evolution (LTE) network is part of our thrust to provide broadband connectivity to the whole country. It complements our efforts to provide connectivity to all Filipino homes through fixed lined services like our fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) and the Next Generation Network (NGN) services.”

Napoleon L. Nazareno, President & CEO, PLDT

This new service revolutionizes the country’s internet experience as it enables more Filipino families to gain  ready access to multimedia services like social media, movies, games, and music. The take up of our PLDT HOME Bro Ultera service has been phenomenal. This LTE to the Home service utilizes Time Division-LTE (TD-LTE), one of the two wireless data transmission technologies that fall under the international standard of LTE.
