Telenor Norway has teamed up with Ericsson to launch the first commercial 5G network in the country in the city of Trondheim.

Trondheim, a city of around 200,000 that’s known for its smart, sustainable city solutions, has now become the first city in Norway with commercial 5G services – powered by the Ericsson 5G platform.  The enhanced mobile broadband services are being delivered on the 3.6 GHz band.

Telenor Norway has selected the latest solutions from Ericsson Radio System to transform its core network and, going forward, to modernize the entire Radio Access Network (RAN) network. In December 2019, Telenor selected Ericsson to deliver its nationwide 5G radio access network.

Jenny Linsqvist, Head of Northern & Central Europe, Ericsson
With its unique ecosystem, advanced universities and high-tech companies, Trondheim is the perfect location to launch 5G services with unprecedented speed and flexibility to empower innovation and a variety of use cases.

Petter-Borre Furberg, CEO, Telenor Norway
When selecting the vendor for the RAN, we considered important factors like technical quality, ability to innovate and modernize the network, and commercial terms and conditions, as well as carrying out an extensive security evaluation.
