Ericsson has become a member of the Global Network Initiative (GNI), a multi-stakeholder non-government organization which addresses the challenge of protecting digital rights – freedom of expression and privacy – in the ICT sector.

Comprising ICT companies, academia, human rights and press freedom organizations, and investors, GNI works collaboratively to protect freedom of expression and privacy rights in relation to government demands for restrictions, content removal, or data access.

Ericsson has held GNI Observer status since January 1 2018 but has now joined as a full member.

Theo Jaekel, Corporate Responsibility Expert, Ericsson
Joining GNI and its multistakeholder membership will help us to further strengthen our efforts to embed the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights (UNGPs) into our operations. It will also provide an important platform for collaboration to address evolving challenges for ICT companies.

Judith Lichtenberg, Executive Director, GNI
Ericsson’s membership is a testament to their corporate commitment to protect and advance freedom of expression and privacy globally, bringing valuable expertise on vendor-specific issues on ICT and human rights to GNI.
