Mytel, the fourth-largest mobile operator in Myanmar and a subsidiary of Vietnam's Viettel, recently conducted its 5G trials on the C-band (3.5 GHz) as part of preparations to launch the service next year.

The Operator, in a statement, said that it tested Virtual Reality (VR) technology as well as Video 4K using 5G during the trial. The connection speed achieved up to 1.6Gbps, far exceeding the 4G current network limit (150Mbps). The Operator is cooperating with phone makers to develop 5G-capable phones for the market.

Mytel started operations in June 2018 and had 4.3 million 2G and 4G subscribers at end-June.
