Zain KSA, Nokia Demo Higher Throughput Between Base Station and Core Network using Liquid Application

Zain KSA and Nokia has jointly demonstrated improved throughput and more efficient transmission between the base station and core network using Nokia's Liquid Applications last week in Saudi Africa.

The demonstration was setup using Nokia's Radio Applications Cloud Server and Flexi Multiradio 10 Base Station, with Nokia Professional Services carrying out the network planning and optimization, system integration, and network implementation. In addition, the company’s consolidated OSS (operations support system) based on its NetAct network management system was used for the management of Liquid Applications and the services in use.

According to Nokia, the demonstration was first of its kind in the Middle East and Africa, and was carried out in Zain’s live network, powered by Nokia’s radio and core network elements. This is achieved by bringing applications, services and content into the base station to allow local storage, along with access to real-time radio and network information. This turns base stations into hubs for local service creation and delivery. By using Liquid Applications, operators can offer subscribers an enhanced service experience by providing them with better throughput and customized applications such as augmented reality and location-based services, added Nokia.

“We are committed to introducing new services to thrill our customers by exploring and adopting the latest technologies available on the market. In response to our customers’ demand for the best mobile broadband experience, we never stop optimizing our network, and we believe Nokia’s Liquid Applications is one of the unique solutions that can offer entirely new service experiences. The demonstration in our live network proves that the solution has the capability to take the experience of mobile broadband services to completely new levels.”

- Sultan AlDeghaither, Senior Director of Network Engineering, Zain KSA

Our Liquid Applications provides truly innovative, localized and personalized mobile broadband services while increasing network performance. With this solution, Zain KSA will be able to drive location-based service innovation and introduce new services in short time frames to increase its revenue and market share, especially in 4G. The operator can create new revenue models outside the traditional telecommunications areas and reduce operating costs at the same time.”
