RAD announced that its ETX-2i-10G cell site gateway has been selected for two 5G rollouts by tier-1 service providers in Europe.
The ETX-2i-10G is primarily used for high-rate enhanced Mobile Broadband (eMBB) services, and will then serve to allow the operators to support highly distributed content and applications with multiple classes of service for various end-to-end 5G slices.
An SDN-ready xHaul cell site gateway, RAD’s ETX-2i-10G also provides maximum flexibility by offering an open firmware that can be easily modified – post-deployment – to meet unique 5G requirements as they are being defined and standardized. This allows service providers to gain a competitive edge while avoiding future costly forklift upgrades.

As 5G is essentially a moving target and operators are still formalizing their deployment plans, they face an immense pressure to make an early market impact. Early adopters are focusing on the much needed capacity increase in their transport networks as well as on-cell-site densification.
