Octoshape, an industry leader in cloud-based over-the-top (OTT) streaming technology, has completed an interoperability demonstration of 4k stream resolution delivered over the public Internet to consumer set-top boxes (STBs), with technology from Harmonic, the worldwide leader in video delivery infrastructure, and AirTies Wireless Networks, a leading supplier of advanced wireless and OTT/IPTV technologies to the broadcast and broadband industry. The total solution includes Harmonic’s ProMedia® suite of multiscreen production and preparation applications, integrated with Octoshape’s Infinite HD-MTM suite of stream acceleration and multicast technologies, and the AirTies HEVC / Octoshape-enabled set-top box.
Source: OctoshapeAccording to Octoshape, the solution leverages on an innovative and extensive range of adaptive bitrate, stream acceleration and a multicast suite of technologies, the Harmonic / Octoshape / Airties solution enables telcos, operators and content providers to deliver ultra-high definition quality streams via broadband. The Quality of service is preserved over broadband utilizing the Octoshape stream acceleration technologies, which alleviate the bottlenecks of traditional HTTP-based delivery methods.
The solution also eliminates the concerns regarding high bitrates and Internet congestion associated with 4k by leveraging the Octoshape suite of Multicast technologies, which provide broadband best effort networks the same efficiencies enjoyed by traditional provisioned Multicast IPTV networks.
