Overture has introduced a turnkey network functions virtualization (NFV) solution for virtual managed enterprise CPE (vE-CPE). The pre-integrated vE-CPE Ensemble Solution Pack makes it easier for service providers to create more flexible and cost-effective alternatives to today’s managed business services.
The solution pack leverages Overture’s strength in Carrier Ethernet 2.0, with Ensemble OSA NFV orchestration and control software, a set of third-party virtual network functions (VNFs), Overture enablement services, and technical support to create a fully integrated solution.
The first in a series of Ensemble Solution Packs from Overture, the virtual managed Enterprise CPE (vE-CPE) includes a virtual branch office router, VPN and next generation firewall VNFs to support the most popular managed service offerings. Additional pre-integrated VNFs are available as options.
According to Overture, through the Overture Ensemble orchestration and control software, the vE-CPE functions can be deployed in a centralized environment, such as a datacenter or central office, or may be distributed out to virtualization platforms on the customer premise.
“In a growing ecosystem of independent software vendors, communications service providers (CSPs) that want to explore modern virtualization options may be resource-constrained to adequately evaluate all of the choices as well as perform all the required system integration work,” said Mike Aquino, president and CEO, Overture. “The Overture vE-CPE Ensemble Solution Pack provides an open, pre-integrated, fully-supported NFV solution to help them accelerate their enterprise service deployments.”

“In our recent survey of 25 Tier 1 service providers and their NFV strategies, virtual CPE was the top use case identified,” said Lee Doyle, principal analyst, Doyle Research. “Virtualizing the managed business CPE addresses a real and immediate industry pain point. As such, it is has the potential to be hugely disruptive in what is currently a multi-billion-dollar market. ”
