In the 5G technology phase III testing of Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) of China, Nokia and Viavi Solutions reached 1.6Gbps SU downlink speed, almost the theoretical peak throughput of 4*4 MIMO configuration.

Nokia used a 5G New Radio (5G NR) compatible, commercially available AirScale Massive MIMO 5G Base Station that enabled the achievement with a 2.5ms single cycle frame structure. By using the commercially available AirScale 5G Base Station to complete the MIIT 5G NewRadio compatibility test, Nokia again provided highly valuable results for the acceleration of the launch of 5G in China.

Nokia achieved a 1.4Gbps average/1.6 Gbps peak downlink throughput with a 3rd party UE just earlier this year in MIIT's 5G technology phase III test. Beating the record so soon after shows the speed of 5G development and the huge potential of the technology. It also reflects the strong performance and processing capability of Nokia's 5G NR-compatible Massive MIMO technology, and the good interoperability between our base station equipment and a 3rd party UE to facilitate instrumentations
