SmarTone announced that it has completed the installation of License Assisted Access (LAA) small cells in a number of popular hotspots in busy areas in Hong Kong.
The launch of the city’s first live commercial LAA network covers the Central, Causeway Bay, Tsim Sha Tsui, Mong Kok and Shatin, and will be extending to more locations.
SmarTone claims the network supports blazing 1Gbps download speeds using aggregate licensed and unlicensed LTE carriers with 5CC carrier aggregation, 4x4 MIMO and 256QAM.
This important new network deployment took place after obtaining the relevantservice license from the Office of the Communications Authority (OFCA). By installing these LAA small cells instrategic locations, they can be used to absorb traffic surges during festive and specialevents, says the Operator.
