A Tier 1 US Mobile Operator has signed a contract with Birdstep for its Wi-Fi provisioning solution to solve credential distribution problems by serving Wi-Fi credentials to end-user devices in an automated, yet fully secure manner by leveraging the mobile network authentication and the existing Connection Optimizer Client on a majority of devices.  The Birdstep credential server which was launched very recently, enables operators to provide Wi-Fi access to its customers in various public locations, combining a build-out Wi-Fi capacity owned by the operator and acquisition of hotspot footprint through partners. It allows Wi-Fi access at both types of hotspots smooth and non-intrusive to the user and does not require any manual actions like password entry from the user.  The solution will provide and manage usernames and passwords for all devices to log on to partner Wi-Fi networks, and for most devices to log on to the operators Wi-Fi network.

According to Birdstep, the value of the contract over the first 3 quarters is approx. 3.7 MNOK with a potential of several million NOK over the next 2 years.

This is a very strategic win for Birdstep. As we have been explaining to the market, this project allows us to move beyond the data bearer and control planes and move into the services plane. Our Credential Server allows our customers to deliver services value directly to their customers" says Lonnie Schilling, CEO Birdstep Technology.
