Gemalto and Embratel, a leading Brazilian telecommunications company, are transforming and simplifying the connected car experience delivering secure On-Demand Connectivity (ODC) and eSIM technology.

With the Gemalto solution, Embratel is able to deliver a flexible, more secure solution to our valued automotive customers allowing us to realize new types of revenue as we shift from mobile operator to mobility service provider.

For the first time in Latin America, motorists can adopt new services anytime, without the need to change the SIM card in their car. It provides immediate access to emerging mobility services such as advanced navigation, real time updates on traffic and nearby amenities, vehicle diagnostics, emergency services and much more.

Connected car technology is quickly expanding in Latin America where penetration is expected to nearly quadruple in four years, growing from 3.3% in 2017 to 12.5% in 2021.

The Gemalto ODC solution solves the problem of quickly and securely provisioning Embratel wireless service and remotely updating subscriptions and services over the lifetime of the vehicle, even when the car changes ownership.

Ney Acyr Rodrigues, IoT Business Director, Embratel
Gemalto's On-Demand Connectivity solution is the first in the world to be certified by the GSMA and it was Embratel's clear preferred choice to solve connectivity management challenges and help drive connected car and new mobility services growth throughout the region.

Daniel Cuellar, VP Mobile and IoT Latin America, Gemalto
Our eSIM technology combined with the connectivity platform make possible on demand services, secure driver identification and car personalization. For OEMs, it creates a great opportunity while greatly simplifying logistics and improving efficiency for service updates and lifecycle management.
