The Telia Lietuva IP network upgrade project that begins this week is the most extensive in its scope since 2007 and the second such project in history, said the Operator.

Telia Lietuva is the only telecommunications company in Lithuania with a full scale offering of fixed and mobile telephony, broadband internet and television services.

The equipment upgrade that will take a year will allow almost quadrupling the network capacity of Telia Lietuva and will ensure data growth capabilities for the next five years. The main Telia Lietuva IP network is used to provide all Internet, television, telephony, fixed and mobile communications services.

During the upgrade project, which is worth EUR 5 million, over 170 communication hubs will be replaced throughout Lithuania. All services provided in the IP network have been successfully tested with the equipment manufacturer Huawei.

During the first quarter of 2017, Telia Lietuva customers used 70 per cent more mobile data than during the same period of 2016. During the first quarter, the Company’s customers who use fixed and mobile communications used 135,000 TB of data in total. In February, Telia Lietuva improved the Internet use experience for its customers by increasing the speed of fibre-optic Internet to 1 Gbps.

At the end of April, business clients using broadband (DSL) communications will receive a significant speed increase as well: the speed will increase up to five times and in addition, a hybrid Internet service is offered.

However, quality management processes ensure that during IP network modernisation clients should not notice any service disruptions, and changes will be made at agreed times. After upgrading the equipment of various manufacturers that is currently in use in the network, we will ensure traffic increase opportunities in the Telia Lietuva network for the next five years.
