ZTE launched its Big Video Premium over-the-top (OTT) solution, at the recent TV Connect 2017. The solution focuses on the requirements of operators, brings subscribers the best possible video experience, helps operators to save costs and shortens time-to-market (TTM), said ZTE.
The platform features multicast-assisted adaptive bit rate (M-ABR), low latency delay and OTT multicast delivery, greatly reducing operator backbone and transmission network pressure. ABR transmission adapts to network fluctuation, providing an appropriate bit rate video stream to users. Small slice and the corresponding optimisation technology allows OTT users to enjoy an IPTV live video experience with low latency delay.
The new solution also supports JITP and mainstream protocols including HLS, DASH, and MSS which enable the OTT platform to be used with all kinds of terminals, enabling operators to reach more subscribers. JITP packages and transmits content only upon subscriber request, so only one copy needs to be stored. This helps operators save on storage. In addition, the multi-protocol bit streams are encrypted through multi-DRM, and decrypted through DRM supported by the native player on the terminal, which greatly reduces investment on terminal DRM licenses.
ZTE also unveiled its smart Android TV set top box (STB) during the event. The new STB supports Dolby Vision to deliver an enhanced viewing experience to homes by integrating the industry-leading super 8-core central processing unit (CPU) and leading graphics processing unit (GPU) to perform ultra-high definition (UHD) 4K (4K×2Kat60 frames per second (fps) 10-Bit colour).
It uses a Google Android TV system and Java virtual machine (JVM) to be compatible with Android applications, and integrates with ZTE’s Smart Home solution, which features Multi-Screen, HD Video Call, Family Album, Home IoT Network and Voice Assistant. Deeply integrated with IoT technology, it also provides strong extendibility.
