The global network security appliance and software market went up 7% in the last quarter compared to 2nd quarter of this year to $1.76 billion, according to Infonetics. The leading technology market research firm projects a solid growth for the security revenue in the last quarter of this year, on the back of 10 percent increase in year to year revenue for the third quarter,  the best growth in the last 2 years. Infonetics said that Integrated security such as appliances, software, and SSL VPN products make up the majority of network security revenue, with the bulk coming from appliances.

  • Based on the year-over-year performance of the top security vendors, Infonetics noted that Palo Alto Networks is increasing its market share, followed by Fortinet, Cisco, and Check Point.

The network security appliance and software market is heading into the last quarter on something of a roll, though we look for quarterly revenue growth to slow by next year. Some large data center and cloud projects are starting to wind down, and we're beginning a transition in earnest to the world of virtualized security. That said, There will be pockets of high growth over the next five years for traditional network security appliances. Many mobile providers are making large purchases for their Gi/SGi footprints, and we're entering an era of delivering traditional network security solutions for industrial environments and the Internet of Things.
