According to the Global M2M Network Security Market 2014-2018 report published via Reportstack, the global M2M network security market will grow at a CAGR of 22.9% from 2013 to 2018, reflecting the increasing number of security threats expected in the M2M segment as the internet-of-things (IoT) starts to grow rapidly across selected industry verticals across the globe. By 2019, the number of M2M connections globally are expected to hit 599.7 million, with vehicles, household electronics, industrial machines, medical equipments, traffic control devices, wearables and a host of other machines all sending and receiving huge amounts of data via the network.
Reportstack, in its announcement, said that security protection in the M2M space is required at two points - at the device level in the form of embedded SIM and at the network level in the form of gateways. With enterprises, businesses and households becoming increasingly dependent on the M2M connections to improve their operational efficiencies, develop real-time monitoring and response capabilities and reduce their management overheads, M2M security will continue to become a concern given that (a) threats are becoming more advanced and (b) most devices and machines are still at their early roll-out stages where security features are not fully developed.
According to ReportStack, the report covers revenues in the segment as well as the industry landscape, major drivers for its growth and challenges faced by vendors and the market at large. Among the vendors included in the report are Axeda, Cisco Systems, ILS Technology, Sierra Wireless, Digi International, Eurotech, Gemalto, Netcomm, Novatel Wireless, Numerex, Option, Qualcomm, Rotalec, Systech, Ventus Wireless.
