  • The proliferation of smart mobile devices is driven not only by the availability of high-speed mobile data connection and various rich applications that can be accessed by users when they are out and about, but also the fact that these devices have become so light-weight, have a nice form factor and come with advanced features such as blue tooth connectivity, Wi-Fi connectivity, tethering, headsets, touchscreens, voice recognition and a host of other features that greatly facilitate users. To add to this list, and probably to make future mobile devices even more convenient to access and to use, the use of wireless power technology in powering these devices instead of the traditional wire charging is seeing a steady increase in terms of its adoption. 

  • MarketsandMarkets, a global market research and consulting company published a new market research report  "Wireless Power Transmission Market" showing that the wireless power transmission market is expected to hit $17.04 Billion by 2020, with a CAGR of 60.49% from this year to 2020. Acccording to MarketsandMarkets, this technology is seeing most growth in the consumer electronic segment, which covers devices such as smart phones, tablets, computers and wearable electronics. MarketsandMarkets predicts a CAGR of 61.18% for the consumer electronics segment for this year, and expects this segment to account a total market share of 67.89% for this technology.  

  • Apart from consumer electronics, other sectors such as healthcare, automotive and defence are expected to see increased adoption in near future. MarketsandMarkets in a statement said that among the different technologies within the wireless power transmission, magnetic resonance technology is expected to dominate as it supports a larger charging field.
