Telefónica on Monday announced that it has expanded its number of IoT connections and coverage throughout the country.
At the end of the first quarter of 2020, the Operator had more than 2.6 million IoT connections, representing a year-on-year growth of 12.4%.
In parallel to this growth, Movistar+ continues to expand its IoT coverage according to the needs of customers, reaching both urban and rural areas throughout the country. In fact, some areas such as Madrid and Valencia have 100% coverage given the high demand for IoT solutions.
The Operator offers NB-IoT (Narrowband IoT) and LTE-M (Long Term Evolution for Machines) IoT solutions as they are complementary and each one is indicated for specific use cases. NB-IoT is the most suitable for massive use of IoT (sensors, telemetry and etc) and LTE-M in use cases that require mobility.
Telefónica also has eSIM cards compatible with the new IoT connectivity as a differential element, an aspect of special interest in cases of use of telemetry, industry or Smart Cities that require long-term deployments and may imply a change of operator.
