ABI Research predicts that the Mobile Packet Core spending will total $18B through 2017 as operators are increasing the network capacity expansion, especially the packet core network to cater for ever increasing Mobile Broadband demand, with those in North America, Japan, and Korea being the early movers. The new forecast surpasses the earlier projection of $10B for the same tenure.

“Operators are desperately seeking new ways to manage CapEx, OpEx and Revenue Top Line,” says Joe Hoffman, Practice Director at ABI Research, “and the Mobile Packet Core is the Network Intelligence to optimize all three. ”Continual advances in semiconductor technology manifest in Commercial IT scale economies make Packet Core virtualization part of a compelling business transformation. Continuing, Hoffman says, “Network Functions Virtualization built on WebScale IT is poised to radically upend the existing order of vendors.” “As the Telecom Market transforms to WebScale, infrastructure vendors should face this reality head-on and fasten their seatbelts as it’s going to be a bumpy flight,” advises Hoffman.
