Google has acquired Orbitera, a commerce platform that makes it easier for software vendors to sell cloud-based products to businesses. The deal is expected to be worth over $100 million, according to Techcrunch.
"At this time, there is no change to the services we are providing and we will continue to support existing cloud platforms. Finally, thank you to our employees, investors, and advisors", said Marcin Kurc, CEO of Orbitera.
Orbitera automates many of the processes associated with installation and management of cloud apps, including billing, packaging and pricing optimization. Right now, Orbireta supports deploying applications across major cloud platforms such as Amazon Web Services and Microsoft Azure, but not Google Cloud Platform. More than 60,000 enterprise stacks have been launched on Orbitera.
Nan Boden, Head of global technology partners for the Google Cloud Platform, wrote in a blog post, “The current model for the deploying, managing and billing of cloud-based software does not easily fit the way today’s modern enterprises operate. Orbitera automates many of the processes associated with billing, packaging and pricing optimization for leading businesses and ISVs (Independent Software Vendors) supporting customers running in the cloud.”
