Google, Friday announced that it has acquired Fly Labs, maker of four iOS apps for fast editing of videos. This will see Google porting Fly's technology used in its apps - Clips, Fly, Tempo and Cropfor - to its Google Photos service.

Fly Labs apps which are completely free with no in-app purchases will still be available on the App Store for another 3 months, said Fly Labs in a statement. But the company will not be submitting any more updates to the apps. Fly claims that its apps had been downloaded 3 million times in the past 18 months, in over 150 different countries with more than 20 million videos been created with apps.

The company, which is based in New York City, was founded by Tim Novikoff in an effort to improve mobile videos. The company's apps allow users to edit with simple swiping and tapping gestures, and comes with a wide variety of presets.
