Telenor Denmark became the first operator to commercially launch VoLTE and WiFi Calling (VoWiFi) service for its 4G customers in the country after testing both the services since the summer.

The services are available to customers with the most recent iPhone models (iPhone 6, 6 Plus, 6S, 6S Plus, SE, iPhone 7 and 7 Plus) and selected Samsung handsets (Galaxy GS5, GS6, GS6 Edge, GS7 and GS7 Edge)

Telenor's customers can benefit from use of the new technologies that provide significantly faster call time and much better indoor mobile coverage.

In June, Telenor Denmark launched a friendly customer trial to test the quality and capacity of its new Wi-Fi Calling service, debuting the service on selected iPhone 6 models. Telenor aims to find solutions to mobile not-spots such as in-buildings basements and also concrete buildings and houses with environmentally friendly insulating glass.

Telenor Denmark has selected Nokia Networks to supply and implement its VoLTE solution, following the successful completion of the first voice calls over LTE in the operator's live network.

Peter Ditlev Nødbak, Network Director, Telenor Denmark
For us it has been important to develop both technologies simultaneously for our customers to get the full benefits of both technologies and give them a much better network experience. Here, the handover portion between VoLTE and VoWiFi an important role, otherwise our customers of course could not take their phone with them when they leave their WiFi connection range.
