Optus, a wholly owned subsidiary of Singtel has built out its cyber security capabilities with the launch of the Optus Advanced Security Operations Centre (ASOC) in Sydney.

The A$10 million investment is designed to strengthen Australia’s cyber defence by helping government agencies and enterprises arm themselves against a growing number of sophisticated cyber security threats.

The Optus ASOC, powered by Trustwave, uniquely combines Optus’ network security capabilities and is part of a globally federated network of advanced security operations centres through Singtel and Trustwave, protecting Australian organisations from threats regardless of where they originate globally.

Optus customers using the ASOC gain access to comprehensive threat intelligence, threat data analytics and advanced security automation for incident response, backed by the elite SpiderLabs® team at Trustwave.

The launch of the Optus ASOC comes on the back of announced plans last week to set up another ASOC in Tokyo where Singtel and Trustwave would provide security services to Japan in partnership with TIS.

Singtel has also enhanced its cyber security capabilities through strategic partnerships with leading global cyber security services providers Palo Alto and Akamai to provide their managed security services to businesses in the region.

Trustwave, the largest independent managed security services provider in North America, was acquired by Singtel in late 2015 for US$770 million to boost its cyber security services portfolio.

The Optus ASOC’s ability to integrate network and security monitoring functions allow it to provide comprehensive infrastructure, network and data security for Australian government agencies and businesses.

John Paitaridis, Business Managing Director, Optus
Cybercrime is a persistent, global threat. It is the number one economic crime in Australia – it is undeniable, unrelenting and growing and with increasing online and digital presence, business and government must be able to confidently operate, innovate and maintain trust with customers and stakeholders in this evolving landscape.
