TIM Offers Free Wi-Fi at Motorway Service Areas in Italy

Italian Operator, TIM has partnered with Autogrill, a leading global operator in food and drink services for travelers, to provide free WiFi service on Italian motorways. This will enable travelers who stop for a break along the motorways to have access to enhanced entertainment and business experience, with better browsing and streamed videos.

Via a partnership, both companies will start making the WiFi service available from this month onwards in the first 100 Autogrill service areas and extend this to others by the end of the year. The project will eventually provide coverage to around 350 Autogrill service areas with Wi-Fi Internet connection with TIM 4G or 4G Plus (where available) and NGN ultra-broadband technology over 600 access points powered by Cisco Meraki solutions.

TIM currently reaches over 92% of the population with 4G and 51% with fibre optic, and plans to reach 98% and 84%, respectively, by 2018.

Expected to be used by around 500,000 customers a day, the new service will be available just when the national motorways are most congested (typically during the summer break).
