AT&T brings WiFi-Calling to Android devices starting with LG G4 following the introduction of the feature to iPhone devices October last year. The new service allows users to make and receive calls, and send and receive texts, just like how these are done on the cellular network.

With the addition of the LG G4, there are now a total of six devices that support the feature on AT&T network, including iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, iPhone 6s, iPhone 6s Plus and the iPhone SE. According to AT&T, the advanced calling option will be made available to more Android devices in the near future.

Bill Smith - President, AT&T Network Operations, AT&T Services, wrote in a blog post that, "Wi-Fi Calling is a complement to our already great network coverage. It’s another option in areas where a cell signal is tough to get – like a home or office with dense building construction."

Once Wi-Fi calling is activated, the device detects when to use Wi-Fi Calling for example, in places with limited or no cell coverage. As soon as the phone detects a Wi-Fi network the user can connect to, it will switch to Wi-Fi calling and texting until cell signal improves.

AT&T added that users can use the Wi-Fi Calling service in the U.S., Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands, as well as across most international countries.
