NOS, Portugal's broadband and TV service provider has selected the ZD4500 set-top from ARRIS International for its new 4K service launch. The new 4K service is touted to offer the highest-quality entertainment experience in the country, allowing consumers to take full advantage of the growing accessibility of 4K TVs as well as new 4K movies and sports broadcasts.

This deployment is the latest in a series of strategic projects between NOS and ARRIS to deliver industry-leading broadband and TV services across Portugal, positioning NOS for success in a highly competitive market.

According to ARRIS, the ZD4500 set-top integrates with a new RDK 2.1-based application framework from Espial and NOS's new immersive user interface to offer an intuitive and exciting entertainment experience for NOS subscribers. The set-top features High Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC) - next-generation compression technology that is twice as efficient as current video delivery standards - to provide 4K content that offers a life-like viewing experience with four times the resolution of full HD and unprecedented frame rates and colour depth.
