Ooredoo Myanmar has announced plans to launch 4G services in Yangon and Mandalay this month to become the first operator in the country to offer 4G services.

Ooredoo Myanmar CEO Rene Meza, said that " A more wide-scale deployment will require more spectrum. Ooredoo has applied to purchase additional spectrum as stipulated in the terms of its license, and this application was recently granted." He added that, "While the government has not yet provided a concrete date for when (the) additional spectrum will be released, it is expected to be over the next 12 months."

In April, the government of Myanmar released an updated version of its spectrum roadmap, providing an indication that it could assign portions of the 850/900MHz and 2100MHz frequency bands, as well as the 700MHz, 1800MHz, 2300MHz and 2600MHz bands for 4G services.
