PLDT's wireless subsidiary, Smart Communications (Smart) has begun to roll out the country’s first LTE-Advanced (LTE-A) service that leverages carrier aggregation technology to boast peak speeds of 260Mbps with combined three frequencies. The service is initially deployed in Boracay, Aklan, one of the country’s leading tourist destinations.
The LTE-A service will initially be supported by a range of certified devices, including the Samsung Galaxy S7 and the Samsung Galaxy S7 edge. For Smart subscribers using LTE-A capable devices, this translates into superior experiences when using various data services, particularly bandwidth-heavy services like video- and audio-streaming, and gaming, said PLDT.
PLDT also announced that it is working closely with NTT DoCoMo on the development of 5G.
