Optus has commenced the rollout of VoLTE service across its 4G Plus mobile network in Australia’s major capital cities. Optus postpaid consumer and SMB customers in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide, Perth and Canberra CBD metro areas will be among the first to enjoy the service. Following the rollout in the capital cities, Optus will be expanding the VoLTE service to other locations in the country, particularly in regional Australia.

The service will initially be supported on Samsung Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge with other devices to be added in due course. Optus' rivals, Telstra and Vodafone Australia have both launched their VoLTE services in 2015.

Dennis Wong, acting Managing Director of Networks at Optus
VoLTE provides customers a number of benefits including high definition quality voice calls, faster call connections and the ability for customers to multitask on their device while browsing and making a call over a 4G connection. We’ve been testing and tweaking VoLTE for the best customer experience and we’re excited Optus customers will start to see the benefits of this technology on our 4G Plus network.
