Orange Romania Starts Wi-Fi Calling Service

Orange Romania has started WiFi Calling pilot service in the country to complement its mobile network coverage. The service will enable Orange to provide access to voice services via Wi-Fi networks in places where mobile signal could be diminished by thick-walled homes, basements or shielded buildings.

The service will be initally supported on Samsung Galaxy S6, S6 Edge and S6 Edge plus smartphones, to customers who have activated their VoLTE service. The WiFi Calling service is available natively on these phones, without the need of installing a dedicated application.

In September, the operator launched VoLTE service to its 4G subscribers to provide better call clarity and simultaneous LTE data/internet connection.

Wi-Fi Calling was developed by Orange in parallel with ongoing investments that the operator is making in expanding coverage and performance of its network, both outside and inside of buildings to meet customers' demand for continuous connectivity.

Orange is also currently conducting an extensive program of modernization of equipment in urban areas and densification and optimization of the network across its footprint.
