Vodafone Portugal announced that it will extend its next-generation fibre network (FTTH) to a further 550,000 homes and businesses by the end of 2016, expanding the coverage of its network to over 2.75 million for a total investment of 125 million euros.

Vodafone Portugal began construction of its fibre network in 2010. In May 2014, Vodafone Portugal was the first to offer services over next generation networks in rural areas and announced Project Spring to extend its network to 1.5 million homes. In July that year it announced a fibre co-investment agreement to connect a further 900,000 homes.

Today, Vodafone Portugal’s fibre network serves over 2.2 million homes and businesses, surpassing the previously announced target of 2.1 million.
